Worshiper to Worshiper

February 15, 2010

This one is for the churched, and those with an interest in the things of God. I have been a “christian” since i was about 12, but was actually introduced to God as the Living God when i was about 14-15. And during my walk and growth with God, i have enjoyed times of intimate worship and times or nothing. Now I consider myself to be called to lead worship, so i should know a something about what i do. So here is a little wisdom from my walk with God.

So i wan’t you to think about what it’s like for you, during your churches worship time, or you own personal worship time. Do you find it boring and repetitive, refreshing and life-giving? Is it always the same?

Well first lets look at what worship is, and its purpose in the kingdom of God. Worship is not a song, nor you singing it. It does not start at church or finish after the last song. Worship is a life style, a life of entering into Gods kingdom, and walking out his plans. Worship is in your attitude towards others and towards God, and you usually know it when you have it and it’s usually pretty easy to see when you don’t.

From a life of worship, flows the fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23). Now worship isn’t something to aim for, it is the natural response to a healthy relationship with The God Head (Father, Son & Holy Spirit). worship will manifests itself in many ways: singing, dancing, encouragement, joy, thanksgiving, art, etc, but you see it is not the act that is the worship, it is the attitude and posturing of the heart behind it.

1 Samuel 16:7 (New International Version)

But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.”

Now what do we do when we do not poses this attitude of worship? Why might we have lost it, or struggle to regain it?

For a time I used to think that worship was where I would wait for God to come to me and welcome me into His presents, like i deserved Him. Like because I have raised my hands and sung a few words, which some one else wrote to express their feeling, that i am worthy of His presents.

Well I was wrong, and thankfully by God grace, He taught me other wise. My error was being young in my relationship with Him and not quite understanding the dynamics of it. Again by God’s grace he allowed me into he presents for a time, and then i found myself doing the same things but no longer entering into worship.

This was because i was simply not entering his presents. To do this, i needed to address my understanding of worship and my relationship with God. At that point it was all about me, and it clearly was not. in fact my relationship with God has very little to do with me and everything to do with him.

I needed salvation, my strength is worthless to Him, i needed His strength, i needed the Holy Spirit… anyway, thats for another blog.

So how do we enter an attitude of worship. You see, there is a well know psalm:

Psalm 100

A psalm. For giving thanks.

1 Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth.

2 Worship the LORD with gladness;
come before him with joyful songs.

3 Know that the LORD is God.
It is he who made us, and we are his [a] ;
we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.

4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving
and his courts with praise;
give thanks to him and praise his name.

5 For the LORD is good and his love endures forever;
his faithfulness continues through all generations.

Entering into worship, allows us entering into God’s presents; verse 4 give us a key as to how: praise and thanks giving. Now we all no that sometimes you just don’t fell very thankful or  like you could give praise. Well this is always a result of or stuff being in out heart that God does not desire; pride, unforgivness, selfish desires, doubt, etc… sin. Thank God for the Holy Spirit, how will show you what these things are if you listen to Him.

Next time you find yourself in this situation, take a moment to repent (change your thinking, mindset, to turn around in your thinking) and address your feelings and attitudes. Put on the garment of praise, and begin to thanks God for anything and everything, especial those people, who you may be harboring sin against. Allow the Holy Spirit to guide you in your forgiving and thanking as He brings to mind your sin and comforts you in your repentance.

Don’t stop there tough, make this a habit, to continually be giving thanks, praise and repentance to God. This will allow worship to flow from your life, and others to be blessed, encouraged and filled with God through your life. This is all for the Glory of The Father, because he is looking for his Son on the earth, will he find Him in you?

Do I Talk To Much?

February 11, 2010

This here, on this page, is my first attempt at maintaining a blog. Though hey, every one else is doing it. But it has recently occurred to me, that maybe blogs aren’t for me. I mean, sure i have lost to say, and plenty of opinions, stories and encouragements, but i usually find they fall on deaf ears, or in this case blind eyes.

I like to share what i have learnt during my sort lifetime, i don’t really consider it mine. My testament is not for my gain, but for others to enjoy. I don’t want all the things that i have discovered, and learnt, usually the hard way, to die with me. What good would that do anyone?

But of late i have decided to withdraw more from sharing my 2 cents, or even correcting some thing that may be incorrect. It usually ends up with me looking like ignorant guy who want to be apart of everything, not the guy trying to help.

My goal here is not to be selfish and withdrawn, but to make what i say count, if its not going to help, i don’t want to say it. Or even if it would help, i not going to share it unless someone asks for my advice. Although inside i am bursting like the kindy kid with the answer, i will use my self control, because 5 minutes later, i don’t care that they didn’t want me help, i have moved on.

My challenge to myself and you if you do somehow find yourself reading this. is to make your word count. Get you bible and read James 3

Auctions Are Fun

February 10, 2010

On day after work i decided i would drop in to the South Nowra pet store just down the road from where I worked (Mcdonalds), to get some stuff for our cats. After browsing around and deciding there was nothing here i wanted, i returned to my car.

At this i realized that i once again had locked my keys in the car, still in the ignition. Stepping back i took a breath, thinking “now, how am i going to get home?”  Hayley was off work that day so i gave here a call, but she didn’t answer. So i sent her a message explaining my situation.

Seeing i had all this time to waste i decide i would have a look into all the other buildings around that i had never taken notice off. First up the back there was an oriental eastern furniture shop, full or stone buddhas and eastern artwork. I don’t like there shops, u can feel the all the weird stuff attached to these items.

Next i moved on to a shop down the front, “Super Furniture”. I walked in expecting to find something we may be able to use in our house. What i found was, lots of stacked furniture items every where, with little tags on them “Lot 125”. I meandered unto the make shift desk, checking out furniture as i passed, to ask what this was all about. The man behind the desk explained to me that it was an auction.

Now I had never been to an auction, only seen them on tv, and though “this could be a good opportunity”. Apparently the store had gone bankrupt, which isn’t surprising, being 1 of say 50 furniture shops in a town with a population of 20,000 of wich only a quarter (5,000) would probably be interested in buying furniture, and not all at the same time.

So everything had to be sold, no minimum. the auction started at 10:00 the next day, so i got my $1 listing catalog and started moving around the lots marking off the ones i was interested in. There was good and bad stuff, all had to go, even some home cinema style couches, and a carriage.  I was particularly interested in a bed frame, and a display unit.

Lets ford ahead. Hayley got my message, cam and picked me up, we looked at the stuff and i came the next morning for the auction.

by 10:30 there would have been 200 people in the place, all scattered amongst the lots. The announce went through the rules, and the biding started of slow. or fast, he still managed to talk at an unflappable speed, that sounded more like the idle of a car than words… is that possible?

Some good deals were made. $200 dining room sets. $120 for 12 stylish lamps. $180 for 50 couch pillows. We got round past the first 100 lots to the ones i was interested in. A bedroom suit, with nice dark wood. i was aiming for $800 at max. and it went for $1200 so i backed off. But you see there were other nice bed suits that i liked so i moved on. The next bes suit i bid on i got! for $800, so i was like “sick!” Ok, so i had bought an item, It is a good idea to enter auctions with a maximum spending, mine was no more that $1500,  so we still had room for other items.

we passed a lot of items; coffee tables, couches, random dining chairs, book shelves, mirrors and cabinets. Then we goto the display units. I wasn’t leaving without one, so i ended up with two. one cheaper smaller one for $175, and then later i picked up a bigger nicer one for $300.

The best part about this auction was the multiple items. the highest bidder can choose to take all all 9 display units or just 1, or 2. Then the loosing bidder in order can choose to take one at the same price, or they will be put back up for auction. The second display unit sold for 380 in the first round, and 2 were taken. then they were put back up, and settled at 300, and the rest were scooped up, as well at one with no handles and broken glass (Unlucky). So i believe that was a win.

After all the excitement, i now had to go pay and get all this stuff to our house. with some help from my brother and a man with a lorry truck, it all made it. I i left having experienced an auction. in 7hrs everything had been sold. all 900+ or so items.

Welcome, our cats

February 6, 2010

This is the beginning; something short for now.

Cats? Well i prefer dogs, but i have two cats, that share my home and my bathroom, as well as my kitchen, and pretty much anything else that they want. There not that bad, i quite enjoy their company most of the time. They are both tabby cats, one female butter scotch long hair and one male grey short hair; Echo and Chad.

My wife and I got them from the pound the week before Christmas, as a gift for ourselves. You know as responsibility training. Turns out that they love me and fear Hayley, she never did anything, they just prefer my lap. They will crawl across her to get to me, this is secretly flattering, but then again they are just cats. I let her do all the nice things for them and they continually thank me.

These cats do get their fair share of discipline though. They like to climb our table and jump across to the kitchen counter, and scout the bench for food, and kitchen ware to knock off the counter. A few weeks ago they broke the lit to our amazing rice cooker and now we cook rice like normal people, on a stove.

Echo has a habit of relieving herself next to one of the two litter boxes in the bathroom. Not sure how to stop this, we have “Urine Off”, a spray that is supposed to fend of cats from marking their territory and gets rid of the smell. It helps with the smell, but it has no effect on echo’s we problem.

Anyway, cats okay, our cats entertaining, dogs okay.
